Have you heard of that saying "Be the change you want to see in the world"? That's something I often think about, and something that motivates me to participate, whether it's volunteering in my community, or helping others, or running for office. Ever since my youth, I've been interested in news and current events, from things that happen in my local community to major events at the national and world stage. I see things that I wish were different about our world and, to be honest, I wish someone else would go and fix everything so that I can live my life without worrying for the future. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that watching passively from the sidelines and "waiting for someone else" isn't going to change anything. Maybe it's up to me, you, and all of us to be that "someone" to bring that change we want for our world. That's why I get involved.
Ensuring upcoming development and infrastructure projects proceed well to bring affordable new homes, good-paying jobs, and good facilities that maintain our good quality of life.
As the city progresses towards full built-out, there are things that we need to do to ensure the city can still sustain itself and maintain its good quality of life, given that it cannot rely as much on new development. There's also the upcoming income deficit projected in about 5 years.
District 2 in Dublin in particular has a high proportion of young families, new residents, and renters, given that the homes here are relatively new. Affordability may be a top issue for residents here.
District 2 in Dublin also houses the county jail, which is situated relatively close to residences. Although crime is not a major issue, the proximity to the jail may be a concern to residents especially in past years when people reported of issues occurring from people being released from jail. Next to the jail there is also a shuttered federal prison. However last year there was talk in of it being turned into an ICE facility, which our community is against. There doesn't seem to any progress on that conversion but we don't know if this issue will come up again.
Traffic isn't necessary a major issue, but during rush hour at major roads, like the main intersection and entry from Dublin Boulevard, a major main road, into the I-580, a major highway, traffic may be noticeable and an issue for commuters.
Have questions or suggestions? I would love to hear from you!
